Sanitary Sewer System
Little
Rock Wastewater Utility is publicly owned and operated by
the City of Little Rock under the direction of the Sewer Committee
and an appointed board. The utility serves the city and suburban
areas with two secondary treatment plants that discharge into
the Arkansas River. The first plant, on the northeastern edge
of the city adjacent to Little Rock National Airport, has a permitted
capacity of 36 million gallons per day. A second treatment plant
in the Little Rock Port area went online in June 1983 with a permitted
capacity of 16 million gallons per day, along with about 40 miles
of connecting sewer lines to allow service in the southwestern
portion of the city. The entire system is now operating with 25
percent reserve capacity and provides pollution reduction equal
to or greater than required by federal and state requirement
