| Arkansas leads the nation in the percentage of the state’s workforce employed by trucking companies. Therefore, it’s not surprising that many of the nation’s largest trucking companies are headquartered in the state, including J.B. Hunt Transport, Maverick Transportation Inc., ABF Freight System, FedEx Freight East, USA Truck and P.A.M. Transport. Additionally, Wal-Mart Stores and Tyson Foods, also headquartered in Arkansas, operate the second- and fourth-largest private fleets in the United States. Approximately 85 percent of all manufactured goods shipped into or out of Arkansas are handled by trucking companies. Central Arkansas is served by these and every other major trucking and expedited carrier in the nation. In fact, more than 55,000 trucking companies operated through Arkansas in 2004, largely on I-40.
